Best Show DVD Arrives!

Remember months and months ago when I mentioned working on a “secret project”? Well I can finally talk about it, because the Best Show on WFMU with Tom Scharpling DVDs have finally shipped and are showing up on doorsteps worldwide!

I was lucky enough to contribute After Effects animation to a music video for a song by the band Fucked Up (whose amazing new album, David Comes to Life, just came out). The song, “Ballad of Hammerhead” is steeped in Best Show mythology. It’s actually about a character from the show named Hammerhead who goes to hardcore shows to regulate and make sure there are “no weak pits.” The video treatment was written by none other than Matt Fraction, and the illustrations were done by Chip Zdarsky. Additional animation and compositing were provided by John Dretzka and Adam Shumaker.

So psyched that people can finally see our hard work! If you’re not already a super-fan of The Best Show on WFMU, check out the iTunes podcasts to get yourself up to speed. The “Best Show Gems” podcast contains hand-picked hilarious calls between host Tom Scharpling and the many characters of his comedy partner Jon Wurster (who also happens to drum for Superchunk and Mountain Goats). The main podcast contains the whole show (minus the music segment), including calls from real listeners, who are sometimes as bizarre and hilarious as Jon’s characters, and there are always plenty of special guests, including but not limited to: Paul F Tompkins, Jen Kirkman, Jon Hodgman, Aziz Ansari, Julie Klausner, Paul Scheer, Ted Leo…

Thinking of giving it a shot? Don’t think about it – DO IT!

Wizard World Comic Con LA

If you live in the LA area, I’m going to have a table at the Wizard World Comic Con (September 24-25). Come by and see me! I’ll give you more details as it approaches, but it should be fun!

Here’s my page on their website.

This is the coolest thing! My good friend Jess made it for my birthday out of felt, but I’m so impressed with it I’m wondering if I can purchase a few more of them and find a way to get them to RAD RAZ fans that want them…

If you’re wondering where I’ve been/what I’ve been up to, working on an awesome animation project with some people whom I admire very much. I won’t mention what it is until it’s public knowledge, but it is looking pretty excellent so far, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!

Richard Dunn: You Will Be Missed

I was terribly saddened yesterday when I saw the news that America’s Pep Pep, Richard Dunn, passed away yesterday at the age of 73. He was easily my favorite part of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! on Adult Swim, and, like many people, I think the “Dunngeon” sketch was probably his all-time best bit on the show.

In honor of Mr. Dunn, I am re-posting the portrait I did of him earlier. I think Steve Agee put it best in his recent tweet: “RIP Richard Dunn. Awesome Life. Great Job!”

Want one of these lovely BANGS posters? Oh, sorry – I’m just doing a limited run for a special event that Sundae Magazine is sponsoring in Savannah, GA. Hmm, I really need to open up an Etsy, though…

Sketchbook: Bangs

Here’s another sketch I did of that Bangs character. I’m really digging her – think I’ll keep messing around with the design.

Also, thank you whoever put my Richard Dunn sketch up on StumbleUpon (although why didn’t you go for the colorized version?) I’ve had a steady stream of viewers from that today.

Also, you will be happy to know that people continue finding my blog by searching for “bacon drawing” (or similar phrases related to bacon and drawing). Literally every day for the past couple days someone has reached my site via bacon related search.
